The printer is able to do this because the PCL XL language (the 'official' name for PCL6) is very highly structured - so any departure from this structure is relatively easy This seems to correlate to HP's version history, which shows that Unidrv*.dll - which was at version 6.0.6001.22127 from 188.8.131.52 in November 2008 through 184.108.40.206, was updated to 6.1.7600.16385. This is due to the printer's inability to process certain parts of the document, such as embedded fonts or images.
